Andy Mangan, Executive Director
Andrew Mangan is co-founder and executive director of the US BCSD. Mr. Mangan holds a masters degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where he attended the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs as an International Fellow. He currently serves on the board of the Foundation for Sustainable Development, is a member of the Education Committee for the International Society of Industrial Ecology, and a member of the Advisory Committee for the Environmental Science Institute at the University of Texas at Austin.
Scott joined the US BCSD in April 2015 as Program Director to provide support in a number of areas including project coordination, membership development, and increased collaboration with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). Scott brings a broad range of experience, including 20 years in environment and sustainability consulting to business with ERM, a leading global provider of environmental, health, safety, risk and sustainability services. Prior to ERM, Scott spent 15 years in industry and 5 years in state government. He has worked closely with the US BCSD for several years, including serving as a member of US BCSD’s Executive Committee.
Katie is a passionate project manager, relationship builder, sustainability and circular economy advocate. She joined the US Business Council for Sustainable Development in 2016, quickly assuming project management responsibilities for the Austin Materials Marketplace and providing crucial support to other US BCSD projects and activities around the US. In addition, Katie also serves on the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling (STAR) Central Texas Steering Committee. Katie obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Trinity University in Business Administration and French, with a minor in Environmental Studies. Other professional interests include: advocating for sustainable food systems, appreciating natural wonders, learning from others, creating positive atmospheres, scratching off items on the to do list, and drinking copious amounts of caffeine.
Susan Fernandes has more than 30 years of experience as an environmental consultant with URS and AECOM. Her work has focused on environmental risk management and EHS compliance assurance services for Fortune 500 companies, including site characterization and risk assessment, remediation, decommissioning, due diligence, permitting and compliance management, and sustainability program support. Ms Fernandes has worked closely with several oil and gas and chemical companies as a Global Client Account Manager, and has been active in US BCSD activities over the last 10 years as a member representative. She is past chair and current member of the University of Texas, School of Information Advisory Council.
Daniel has spent the last six years with the US Business Council for Sustainable Development. He helps design, launch and manage Materials Marketplace projects in Austin, Detroit, Memphis, San Diego, and the nationwide US Materials Marketplace. Daniel also helped launch the Houston Energy Efficiency in Buildings Project, and currently serves on the Communications Committee. His role supports the development of ambitious and practical strategies for reducing building energy consumption by 30% or more in the Houston market. Other professional interests include: social entrepreneurship, with special emphasis on new business opportunities that utilize by-product and waste materials; engaging meeting design and facilitation; team building; and communications and marketing.
Rui He (Ray) is an expert in industrial ecology, and is passionate about institutionalizing sustainability through collaborative actions. In his role with the US BCSD, Rui helps manage the China-US EcoPartnership, in which US BCSD is actively participating, and works to build effective By-Product Synergy networks in both China and the US. Ray holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Zhejiang University and a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies at Yale University.
An industrialist, Ali Masoudi is a Yale graduate and his work centers on sustainable materials, circular economy and sustainability. As a sustainable materials manager at the US BCSD, Ali is involved in national and statewide Materials Marketplace projects. He is a Certified ISSP Sustainability Associate and a committee chair of Environmental Management and Sustainability at Energy and Environmental Division (EED) of American Society for Quality (ASQ). Ali Masoudi holds a M.Sc. degree in Environmental Science from Yale University (2017), and a M.Sc. and a B.Sc. degrees in Industrial Engineering from South Korea (2013) and Iran (2008) with a focus on sustainability and manufacturing systems, respectively.
